The International Association of Astronomy (IUA) celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2019, as well as astronomical discoveries that have influenced our science, technology and cultural life in the last century. In order to contribute to these activities and to raise awareness across our country, we conducted the Eratosthenes Experiment on September 23, 2019 with 105 countries and 5877 schools from around the world. Within the scope of the activity, we observed that the earth is not flat and that it revolves around its own axis with the measurements of shadow lengths we have made between 10:00 and 14:00 and we have calculated the environment around the world as Eratosthenes did 2400 years ago.
In our experiment, we measured the shadow length of a 1 meter long bar at noon as 88 cm. Starting from this, we calculated the angle of incidence of solar rays at 41.34 degrees and the circumference of the earth as 40058 km.
